How to use the working days calculator

How the working days calculator works
The calculator walks through every date from the first to the last, both included, and counts each one as a weekday or a weekend day. It doesn’t know public holidays, so take those off yourself.

Calendar days flatter a deadline. Four weeks sounds like a month of work, but it holds 20 working days at most, and fewer once a holiday, a sick day or a slow approval lands in it.

If the project needs 15 days of work plus two rounds of client feedback, 19 days leaves very little room. Move the deadline or trim the scope before you agree to it.

Does it count the start and end dates?
Yes. Both days are included, so Monday to Friday of the same week is 5 working days.
Does it know public holidays?
No. Holidays differ by country and region, so count yours and take them off the total. Do the same for any days you will be away.
Which days count as the weekend?
Saturday and Sunday. If your working week is different, use the all-days count and take off your own days off.
How many working days are in a month?
Usually 20 to 23, depending on the month and where the weekends fall, before any holidays. November 2026 has 21.
How do I set a realistic deadline?
Estimate the days of work, add time for client feedback between rounds, then count forward from the start. Put the dates in your proposal: the freelance proposal template has a timeline section for them.
