How the lorem ipsum generator works
The generator picks words at random from the 63 words of the classic lorem ipsum passage. A sentence is 8 to 16 words with a capital and a full stop, and a paragraph is 3 to 5 sentences. The text has the rhythm of real copy without anyone being tempted to read it.

Three paragraphs can run from 72 to 240 words, because sentence and paragraph lengths vary. Shuffle and the next draw comes out a different length.
Lorem ipsum generator FAQ
What does lorem ipsum mean?
Nothing, on purpose. It is a scrambled passage from a book Cicero wrote in 45 BC, and printers and designers have used it as filler for decades. Because it looks like text but says nothing, people judge the layout instead of the words.
Should I show lorem ipsum to a client?
For an early layout, yes, with a note that it is placeholder. For anything they sign off, use real or near-real copy: Latin hides problems like a headline too long for its box or a button label that wraps.
How much placeholder text do I need?
As much as the real copy will be. Ask for the expected length, then match it: a 50-word bio, a 300-word article intro. The word counter counts what you generate so you can get close.
Can I use it in test data?
Yes. Put sentences in the text fields of each test record and the right kind of value everywhere else: a Unix timestamp for dates, for example. Check the finished records parse with the JSON formatter, and shuffle between records so they are not all the same.
Why do some words repeat?
With 63 words to draw from, repeats are normal, sometimes even side by side. Real copy repeats words too, so it does not get in the way of judging a layout. Press Shuffle if a draw looks odd.
