## How to use it

2. Find the version you need: a slug for a link, camelCase for code, Title Case for a heading.
3. Copy it with the button on its row.

## Slug and case converter FAQ

**What makes a good URL slug?**
Short, lowercase, words joined by hyphens, and about the page rather than the date. Use hyphens, not underscores: search engines read a hyphen as a space between words. Once a page is live, keep its slug, because changing it breaks every link to it.

**How long should a slug be?**
Three to five words is plenty. Drop words like the, a and to when the slug still reads clearly without them. The [word counter](https://www.meadowdesk.com/tools/word-counter) gives the exact character count if a system sets a limit.

**Which case should I use in code?**
Follow the language: camelCase for JavaScript variables, PascalCase for classes, snake_case for Python and database columns, CONSTANT_CASE for constants, and kebab-case for file names and CSS classes.

**How do I name CSS custom properties?**
In kebab-case after two hyphens, like --brand-coral. Convert the name here, then pair it with its value from the [color converter](https://www.meadowdesk.com/tools/color-converter).

**Should a link use a slug or an ID?**
A slug for pages people read and share, so the link says what it is. An ID, often a [UUID](https://www.meadowdesk.com/tools/uuid-generator), for records that change name or should not show how many there are. Some sites use both, like /posts/1234-the-kind-way.
